Dining

Canmore boasts a plethora of excellent restaurant and pub choices that will suit all family members and budgets. As there are so many, we’ll highlight the ones that we’ve recently visited to ensure our reviews are current and that food sampled was outstanding. Check back for new reviews often!

Thai Pagoda

We enjoyed a birthday dinner here recently and can highly recommend it for the attentive service, freshly prepared authentic Thai food and fabulous wine and extensive international beer selections. A favourite — the green curry, their wonderful spring rolls, and the coconut ice cream for dessert. We’ll be back for sure.

Elita Restaurant

We were treated for lunch at Elita February 28th, 2012 and thoroughly enjoyed it! My husband and I both raved about the red chicken curry, made fresh to order — super spices and a variety of fresh tender-crisp vegetables, green onion and cilantro enhanced the dish nicely. Our companion had the wine-marinated schnitzel special and said he’d order it again. Elita also boasts a number of vegetarian/vegan and gluten free items on their menu, all with a choice of Mediterranean/Pacific Rim or North American flare. Reasonably priced ample portions and attentive service from the owner, along with a complimentary ice cream dessert capped off a great meal. Elita is located on Railway Ave across from Canmore’s new multiplex building (under construction) and off-street parking is available at the left side of the building.

Banff Ave Brewing Co.

We took the kids to night ski up at Mount Norquay last weekend and took advantage of a rare dinner out down in Banff as our neighbours recommended the Banff Ave Brewing Co. as a fun place to go. Well, it was! Our server was prompt and and it was cool to watch the brew masters at work while we ate. Their grapefruit-infused IPA ale was really radical and they boast quite a few interesting varieties to choose from. We both enjoyed their bison burgers and lots of flat screen TV’s ensured we didn’t miss any of the all-star hockey coverage. Would definitely suggest going there for Superbowl Sunday …. But only if you’ll cheer on the Patriots…..Yo! Banff Ave Brewing Co.

O Bistro

A lovely and intimate niche in Canmore’s culinary repertoire, O Bistro’s fresh approach to lunch or dinner is always a treat. Just had a great lunch there – an amazing tomato soup along with an AAA Alberta beef dish served on rice with portabella mushroom glaze (the special of the day). My companion thoroughly enjoyed the duck confit wrap and garden salad. Good value for the high quality and amount of food received too! It’s a small place so go early or reserve a table. O Bistro

The French Quarter Cafe

Had a delicious breakfast recently here – an amazing eggs benedict with a bourbon street-style hollandaise sauce that was to die for. We’ve also taken two very worthwhile and fun cooking classes with renowned chef, Michael Raso. This is a jazzy little bistro that’s big on food inspired by the Deep South. Chef & owner, Michael Raso loves cooking and is a regular visitor to New Orleans. He always seems comes back to Canmore with fresh ideas, recipes and new menu options for his great little restaurant in the Rockies. The French Quarter Cafe

LunaBLUE Restaurant

A great option for the whole family, we were treated by friends to LunaBLUE just after New Years. As our children are vegetarian and picky eaters, they both chose the most amazing squash & ricotta cheese-stuffed ravioli with a ginger-raspberry sauce that was to die for. The chef had just brought in fresh Arctic Char (a wonderful treat – similar to fresh rainbow trout) that went with a lovely fresh pasta tossed with lemon and fresh herbs. A special offering we adults enjoyed immensley. The nice thing too is that you can pick a large or small portion size to suit your appetite! I’ve also enjoyed LunaBLUE’s amazing Pad Thai this past year and highly recommend that and their fresh and sumptuous daily homemade soups. Conveniently located on Canmore’s main street, LunaBLUE is a fresh pasta lovers dream. LunaBLUE

The Georgetown Pub

This cozy and quaint pub will warm you after your outdoor winter adventure with a roaring fireplace, hearty soups and stews, Canmore’s best fish ‘n chips (halibut no less and a personal favourite) as well as a variety of traditional English pub comfort food fare. They also have some terrific salads and mouth-watering desserts like “Sticky Pudding”. The Georgetown Inn Pub

Stoney’s Bar and Grill

You can’t beat the ambiance up at Silvertip Golf Course’s Stoney’s. Perched overlooking the mountains and golf greens (now blanketed with snow), enjoy some amazing views while you dine. We recently joined friends up there to enjoy their weekly Friday night deal – $5.00 appetizers and $5.00 pints of beer. It was amazing! We ordered hot ‘n spicy wings, nachos, spring rolls, chicken curry, hummus dip and ginger beef and everyone ordered seconds of everything! It’s a great deal that runs through the Christmas holidays but it’s getting popular so go early to ensure you get a table. Stoney’s Bar and Grill

Indochine Vietnamese Fusion Restaurant

We recently had an amazing lunch at this authentic, family run restaurant that’s just around the corner from Mystic Springs Chalets and Hot Pools. The salad rolls were fantastic, the chicken noodle soup bowl was huge (we split it) and satay skewers were spicy and delicious. Everything was super fresh and full of flavor. Great vegetarian menu as well. A healthy choice if you’ve been over-indulging over the holiday season! Indochine Restaurant
