Another Great Hike Idea for a Hot Day!

Check out Jura Creek and Canyon out on Hwy #1A just 2.4 km east of Exshaw – park on the south side of the highway at the Greymont cement plant entrance. You’ll see the dirt trail directly across the road that leads up and into the cool, watery canyon. Wear sturdy sandals to enjoy sloshing, rock hopping and crossing log jams up through the creek as you head into a pretty little valley. Near the end of the trail, keep right.  Where the trail seems to end you can climb a small steep bouldery section and see ancient first nations pictographs there. A new favourite of ours. Kids and dogs love it too! (2-4 hrs, 7 km round trip, easy, no elevation gain). >DS

Hey Dads! If you’re in Banff or Canmore this weekend celebrating Father’s Day, head on over with the family to our annual Father’s Day vintage car show in Canmore’s Centennial Park while you’re out’n about!  Best of all it’s FREE! (not the cars silly, the admission). Happy Father’s Day >DS

Join the Bike Ride Tribute from Canmore to Banff this Sunday

Canmore is hosting the 8th annual bike ride in memory of Isabelle Dube — a Canmore local who’s tragic death prompted an annual cycle tribute in her honour. Dube was an avid cyclist who competed in endurance races such as the World Solo 24 Hours of Adrenaline Championships and the TransRockies Challenge race.  Cyclists will meet in the Canmore Public Library parking lot this Sunday June 3rd at noon. The route goes through the streets of Canmore, continues through Harvey Heights, and heads into Banff via the new Legacy trail. Participants will finish at the gazebo in Banff Central Park. RCMP will be escorting the bicyclers the entire ride. Don’t have a bike? You can rent one at Trail Sports up at the Nordic Centre or down at Gear Up on Bow Valley Trail. Meet new friends and enjoy the Legacy Trail – one of our “must-do” Banff/Canmore excursions!

Out’n About Second Edition Off to Press!

I’m excited to announce my 2nd edition guide book, “Out’n About  A fun and friendly guide to Banff and Canmore” was sent to press today! 140 pages of fun, this isn’t just a hiking book. Tons of things to see and do, there’s hikes, bikes, boat trips, swimming holes, scenic wonders, rainy day stuff to do, events, festivals and so much more.  Look for it on local store shelves and in ebook format over the next few weeks. >D

Spring? Really??

As another day of snow piles up in the mountains I must extend my most sincere condolences for those of you who live out east (I’m an ex-Ontario gal myself – learned to ski at Georgian Peaks).  Really people, it’s time to book your holiday to Canmore and take advantage of our 40+ year record snowfalls.  Sunshine Village for example reports ALL TIME SNOWFALL RECORD 908cm (30ft), YTD SNOWFALL 877cm (28ft) 31cm (12in) TO GO!! Lake Louise, Nakiska and Mt. Norquay are also in stellar shape for a spring ski trip.

So no excuses. Get on out here…

… and, bring a friend… >D

Cheers!

Yes folks, more snow than you can imagine….

Our ski hills just keep getting the powder so no more excuses — book your spring break holiday to Canmore now!!  Here are some shots taken over the past weekend to get you motivated.  >D
