November can get dark, cold and you can get caught up waiting and just dreaming of ski season being in full swing. While you’re waiting to hit the slopes there are some important and fun things going on in November. What are we talking about? Well, it started in Australia, under their November summer sun. It’s called Movember and it was started to raise awarness about men’s health and prostate cancer. There’s a high chance of surviving this cancer if it’s caught early enough. Trouble is, a lot of men opt out of going to the doctor for ‘just a check up’.
The Georgetown Inn is throwing a bash in support of men’s health. In fact, all the Waymarker Men shaved their faces and volunteered to grow a moustache in support of this great cause!
Steam Whistle will be donating a dollar for every pint sold. Other Canmore locals have donated Heli Tours, Dog Sled Tours and other Gift Certificates to be won. Canmore Cabs has donated Free Taxi Rides home.
Head down to The Georgetown Inn Movember 30th to chat about moustaches, mens health and the Grey Cup game with other Mo Brothers like yourself.
The Georgetown Inn would like to invite you to join them this Sunday, June 17, 2012 at 2PM for the great kick-off to the hiking season! This is a wonderful way to spend time with your father on Father’s Day. We will have complimentary live music from Cabot’s Crossing, Guest Speakers and Beer and Burger specials!
If you’re feeling really ambitious you can get started on your hikes that morning or afternoon! And remember there is no time limit on completing the 3 hikes. If you’re a hardcore hiking enthusiast you can do all three in one day (like my crazy little brothers did) or if you like to stop and smell the flowers you can enjoy the hikes at a slower pace throughout the summer.
The Triple Crown is all about having an intrinsically rewarding experience. Waymarker CEO, Lockey Craig is quoted saying, “It’s about having a good sleep, a good adventure and a good meal. Everyone deserves it! That’s how my mother took care of me and my two brothers and that’s how I want to take care of my guests, which is why we started The Triple Crown.”
So make sure you bring your dad’s out and get some tips on how to truly enjoy the beautiful rocky mountains that are right in our backyard. I know that’s where I’ll be!

If you’re in the area this weekend, think about taking a trip up to Lake Louise to either skate on the lake or enjoy a x-country ski on the many track-set trails in the area. Then, take in the amazing ice sculptures at the beautiful Chateau Lake Louise. If you’re bringing the kids, let them create their own ice creations during the “Little Chippers” ice festival event. Whatever you do, there’s tons of fresh new snow everywhere and the weather is looking good so get out there! >D

Thursday January 26th is Australia Day! We wish all Australians visiting or working here in our fine valley a very happy day! And, if you hadn’t heard, Lake Louise Ski Resort is hosting a big party for you up there tomorrow. Should be fun. G’day mates!

It’s positively balmy outside (-10C right now feels great after -36C all week) so grab your gear and go experience the area this weekend! A couple of ideas to keep you busy…… try night skiing at Mt. Norquay tonight – the park riders will love the terrain park with 15 cms of new snow. Afterwards, head to the lounge upstairs in the lodge - they serve fabulous nachos. Or, save your visit to enjoy Mt. Norquay’s “World Snow Day” celebrations this Sunday – don’t miss the new Belgian Waffle Hut for a taste of fresh, hot, delicious waffles made by Canmore entrepreneur (Belgian ex-pat) Pascale Wanlin – yummy! A snowshoe up to Chester Lake would be ideal. Or, try kiteboarding up on the Spray Lakes (Spray Lakes/Smith Dorrien Road) and park just past the Sparrow Hawk picnic area) as it should be windy the weekend. Whatever you do….enjoy!
