Rainy Day Activities

Attention all visitors! Don’t just explore our downtown core to find Canmore’s
amazing artisans and crafts people. For a unique shopping experience, here are
some favourite off the beaten path places to go:

  • Of Cabbages and Kings Pottery
Located at 129 Bow Meadows Crescent up in the Elk Run Blvd area, John and his
daughter Katie Borrowman have a wonderful line of unique and innovative pottery
they’ve created for your perusal and purchase. Hours are Tue-Sat, 10:30 am to 5:00
    pm or by appointment.
  • Hot Glass Studios
Susan Gottselig, Beth Monod and Nicole Tremblay’s hand made hot glass creations
are truly amazing. You can even watch these talented ladies create their works.
Each sculpture begins as a “gathering” of molten glass that is collected from a 2000
degree melting furnace onto a steel pipe or punti. The hot glass is sculpted with
hand tools, and when finished the piece must be slowly cooled (annealed) for a day
or more. Call ahead for hours: 403-609-9333. Unit #8, 111 Bow Meadows Crescent.

  • Ammonite Factory
Learn a little about Alberta’s fossil history and splurge on a piece of jewelry that is truly unique to our area. This “made in Alberta” gemstone is actually made out of fossilized Ammonite sea critters and the amazing “sea” of colours in every stone go with almost anything in your wardrobe. 106 Bow Meadows Crescent.
  • Bernhard’s Creative Woodwork Inc.
If you love hand-crafted wooden bowls and objects d’art, stop by Bernhard’s studio at 4-104 Boulder Crescent. Great prices too!

  • Le Chocolatier
John and Belinda outdo themselves by creating the most amazing and delicious chocolate truffles and clever seasonal chocolate creations. They also offer groups a fabulous evening of chocolate making and education on the art of being a chocolatier. 121 – 701 Benchlands Trail (beside the Iron Goat restaurant)
