Canmore is hosting the 8th annual bike ride in memory of Isabelle Dube — a Canmore local who’s tragic death prompted an annual cycle tribute in her honour. Dube was an avid cyclist who competed in endurance races such as the World Solo 24 Hours of Adrenaline Championships and the TransRockies Challenge race. Cyclists will meet in the Canmore Public Library parking lot this Sunday June 3rd at noon. The route goes through the streets of Canmore, continues through Harvey Heights, and heads into Banff via the new Legacy trail. Participants will finish at the gazebo in Banff Central Park. RCMP will be escorting the bicyclers the entire ride. Don’t have a bike? You can rent one at Trail Sports up at the Nordic Centre or down at Gear Up on Bow Valley Trail. Meet new friends and enjoy the Legacy Trail – one of our “must-do” Banff/Canmore excursions!
Welcome to all US visitors here over the US Memorial Day long weekend! A few ideas for you: Check out the “Buy Local” trade fair at the Canmore Rec Centre, bike ride the Legacy Trail, hike up Grotto Canyon or explore the Hoodoos or the secret Billy Carver pioneer cabin near Johnson Lake.
Pick up my “Out’n About” Banff & Canmore” guide book for more great ideas on stuff to do. Available at most Canmore book and sports stores and the Art in the Park show beside the NWMP Barracks in Canmore — you may even meet a real Mountie — or, in Banff at the Explorerockies, Friends of Banff, Banff Mountain Art and Indian Trading Post stores. Be sure to end the day by toasting our allied armed forces troops at the Banff or Canmore Legion Halls. Enjoy!
Hankering for fabulous Mexican food? Then you must try Castillo’s in Canmore. Jorge was a wonderful host and prepared everyone amazing dishes – burritos were to die for and everything was fresh and full of flavour. Reasonably priced too. Right downtown across from the Canmore Civic Centre. Parking available street side or in behind the tourism info centre. >D
Ok, so why are we celebrating this? Queen Victoria was only 18 when she came to the throne and she had a lot to learn. Her reign had a rocky start. She thought that, as queen, she could do as she liked, and she quickly had to learn that she couldn’t. Doh!! Sounds like a Homer Simpson episode. Anyway, we’re grateful she gave us Canadians a long weekend start to the summer. Enjoy, don’t drink’n drive, have a “experience Canmore/Banff kinda time. >D
Join in for a Canmore fundraiser for breast cancer and green products so that all of us using cleaning products etc. don’t succumb to chemical craziness. Support TR3 and the cause — a great band and, you can dance off a few calories! See ya there.
Amazing – Lake Louise and Sunshine still have so much snow! And, they have outdoor bbq’s, great live bands and of course, the infamous slush cups to cap off the best snow season we’ve had in 100 years. So, don’t put your board or skis away yet. C’mon out and celebrate and soak up some sunshine on the slopes.
