…and shaping up to be a stellar week to get out and enjoy Canmore and area. The ski hills have received a ton of new fluffy POW, as have the x-country trails in and around town. And, if you’re going to be staying in the area this weekend, you might want to take in the Liona Boyd concert at the Cornerstone Theatre this coming Sunday night. Awesome guitarist! Whatever you do, have fun and enjoy these warm, spring-just-around-the-corner, sunny days. >D.
Yes, Canmore is a great place to celebrate Valentines Day but do remember, we’ll be hosting our Winter Carnival starting February 10th so you’ll get double your amazing Experience during your visit! Send me your thoughts on what was impressive at the Carnival and have a Happy Valentine’s Day and Winter Carnival celebration. Enjoy! >D.
True – it’s been asked before. There are some prime wildlife viewing areas in and around Canmore. Yesterday, a HUGE herd of Elk could be seen grazing in the valley along the #1 Highway by Banff — I’ve never seen so many! Our Elk herds often frequent the Three Sisters Village on the southeast side of Canmore too. Rocky Mountain Bighorn Sheep herds are commonly seen grazing beside the 1A Highway between Canmore and Exshaw and Moose sightings are quite possible up around Mt. Engadine Lodge along the Spray Lakes / Smith Dorrien Hwy #742. So, take a scenic drive around the area and hopefully, they’ll have let the animals out that day. >D.
Had a wonderful walk today with my dogs along the Bow River Trail. And was it warm…at least in February for Canmore. Have a great weekend whatever you do – dare to do it!
Take advantage of our sunny warmer weather at of one of Canmore’s best outings – the Canmore Nordic Centre, home of the 1988 Olympics and now host to world class x-country, skate skiing and team Canada’s biathlete training ground. Today’s conditions were amazing and hardly anyone was there so you’ll feel like you’re in the wilderness, 5 minutes above town. Rentals available on-site at Trail Sports and day tickets are super reasonable. Say hi to a Team Canada biathlete like Robin who is training for the IBU Cup while you’re there!
And yes, our bunnies will see their shadows today so bring it on (winter that is). It’s going to be a wonderful day for pretty much anything so go out and enjoy the area! Banff/Lake Louise Snow Days are still on and offering a lot of free fun activities today. All the ski hills are reporting great conditions and the x-country trails up in Kananaskis and Spray Lakes regions are fabulous. Ditto for snowshoeing. Have a great day! >D
