Want to know a great secret spot to toboggan? Drive up the Spray Lakes Road and just past the Goat Creek Trail parking lot, take your first right onto a forest service road and drive up 30 metres to the road gate. Grab your sled gear and walk past the gate along the service road throught the woods about 200 metres. The road makes a a great long snowy run into a beautiful open valley. This area is also popular for snow shoeing. Enjoy!
Coming to Canmore for Christmas? One thing you won’t want to miss is a trip over to Banff to see all the wonderful lights and Christmas decor at the Fairmont Banff Springs “Christmas at the Castle” event. Starting today through January 2nd, the Springs does Christmas like no other hotel in the area. It’s truly a magical time of year there and well worth a visit to take in all the festive ambiance, activities and get some great photos. I also recommend that afterwards you reserve a table at the quaint and rustic Waldhaus Restaurant for some amazing fondue to cap off a great day!
Who knew? Yes, Dec 18th is officially “World Snow Boarding Day”. Yo!
Sunshine Village Ski and Snowboard Resort has a ton of activities lined up for the day: free Salomon snowboard demos, a small park feature in the Village for snowboarders (photographs will be taken), a drink special just for snowboarders at the Mad Trapper’s Saloon in the Village, and – of course – our famous mini-terrain park will be open to all snowboarders. There will also be free giveaways of nifty Sunshine Village swag in the Village. Sunshine is also offering 20 per cent basic snowboard rentals and off the Discovery snowboard lesson to anyone who mentions World Snowboard Day.
There will also be an official after-party at the Dancing Sasquatch in Banff with free entry for Sunshine pass and ticket holders. For more information, please see www.world-snowboard-day.com. Happy shredd’in.
Of course you do! And, since you do, why not take this short survey the Town of Canmore has posted to get your feedback on what is working well, and what can be improved upon for trails and recreation in and around our fine town. You can add your thoughts here: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/QFWCMCW Thanks for helping make Canmore the best place to visit this side of Calgary!
A US-based animal rescue group just offered to save our Canmore bunnies! Let’s hope town council considers and approves this option! See: http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/calgary/story/2011/12/05/calgary-canmore-bunnies.html
